Academic Bio & Research Interest

I have a master’s degree in Structural Engineering from Shahid Rajaee University of Tehran, with a 3.77/4 GPA. During my M.Sc. course, I studied the activity of pozzolanic materials by investigating the surface energy of their minerals at the atomistic level via Molecular Dynamics simulations. In this study, I proposed a new method to assess pozzolanic activity with the minimum number of required tests, which is published by Construction and Building Materials.
As a structural engineer, my ambition is to continue my research and studies so that I can take constructive steps towards sustainable development. Regarding the high CO2 emissions of cement industry, one of my highest priorities is to study cement and other alternatives. However, I have experiences in structural design and I am also keen on studying structures and their characteristics.

Research Experiences

Pozzolanic Activity Index (PAI)

In this study, I simulated the interaction of water molecules on pozzolanic minerals surfaces at the nanoscale to assess their activity. This research resulted in a new activity index for pozzolanic materials, which we called PAI. This index makes it possible to compare pozzolanic materials in terms of their activity with only one XRD test. This research verified by experimental results and the findings were in line with ASTM C618.

Temperature and PAI

In this study, I tried to investigate the effect of temperature on the formerly proposed PAI. Since pozzolanic activity can influence the early compressive strength of concrete, I employed atomistic simulations to study the PAI in different thermal conditions. This research showed that the initial stages of pozzolanic reaction are not under the influence of temperature changes. Reactive MD simulations, however, may illustrate noticeable effects.

Molecular Dynamics

Molecular Dynamics uses newtons second law to predict and analyse the physical movement of atoms and molecules within a system. Furtherly, based on the recorded trajectories for each atom and the average over the ensemble, different macroscopic properties of the material can be predicted. I especially use this method to find practical relationships between properties of cementitious materials at different length scales.

FRC tunnelling segments

Seeking the most convenient approach for the construction of tunnelling segments with FRC, we studied previously built FRC tunnels all over the world. One of the results was the optimum content of fibre with regard to the dimension of the tunnel, which achieved by statistical analyses.
